50 years
Not of independence
But
Of blood sweat and tears
Celebrated with
A dance chant and cheers,
Patriotism buried
In the state House backyard,
Nepotism exhumed
From the Outcasts' graveyard,
Fragile promises
Cracked with lies,
Living standard
Antonymous to rise,
Family trees deeply rooted in Poverty,
Government still,
Hold us down like gravity,
Highest Mountain
Deepest Lake,
Resources are plenty,
poorest is the state,
Leaders busy
Building their mansions,
Exceedingly lazy
Building the nation,
Retirees are dying
Before given their pension,
Island of peace flooded
With religious tension,
Muslims burn churches,
And still hit their heads on the ground,
Allah u Akbar!
Christians preach hatred,
And still lift their hands in the sky,
Our Father in Heaven!
Albinos' graves
Turned into goldmines,
Behind bars
The innocents confined,
Eyes of the law
Blinded with money,
Justice is bought
So is attorney,
Cotton farmers
Dressed in tattered rags,
Cobblers' sons
Walking barefoot in class,
Runaway fathers leaving
Knee high tall toddlers,
Single mothers raising
Intrepid soldiers,
Teenage boys
Best at chasing wet dreams,
Life gets hard
Their future gets dim,
Pregnant damsels
Almost mothers,
Unborn aborted
Merciless murders.
